Why Are We Doing This?
This series is a Passion Project’ born out of true love of both Music and Art. At a time when public funding for the arts continues to shrink across the country, many extraordinary musicians and visual artists are finding fewer opportunities to share their work — and fewer reliable sources of income to sustain their creative lives. Sketches of Music was created in response to that reality, and from a deep belief in the value artists bring to our communities – and their creations bring to our lives.
We designed this series to be both artist-centered and community-rooted: a space where musicians and visual artists are not only paid for their work, but truly seen and felt. By bringing them together in real time — composing, performing and creating before an audience — we offer a rare window into the creative process and give their gifts a place to shine. The result is an experience that is mesmerizing, intimate, immediate and truly impossible to repeat.
At its heart, Sketches of Music exists to strengthen the creative ecosystem — providing meaningful opportunities for artists, and musicians by expanding their visibility through ‘Live” and livestream audiences, and inviting communities to connect more deeply with the people and processes behind the art they love.
Our goal is simple: to bring people together around the creative process itself — to make it visible, shared and alive!
The Experience: As the music begins, so does the canvas. Audiences witness a one-of-a-kind artwork materialize on stage, fueled by the rhythm and emotion of the musical performance. It is connection through an intimate, uniquely singular moment with these creative souls—offered both in-person and via high-quality livestream.
The Vision: Co-Executive Produced by acclaimed composer Jeanne Ricks and veteran public media producer Jill Clarke (PBS, BBC Worldwide), Sketches of Music pairs elite artistic excellence with impeccable musical craftsmanship. Based in Westchester, we are dedicated to strengthening the local arts ecosystem while reaching a national and international audience of Arts lovers.
The Result: A powerful act of collaborative storytelling. Each event concludes with an artist conversation and an opportunity to own the unique creation through an exclusive artwork auction.
